“Il faut être léger comme l’oiseau, et non comme la plume” — Paul Valéry
The great Italian writer, Italo Calvino, believed dearly in the value of lightness. He felt writing should involve the subtraction of weight, giving it a nimble and effortless quality. For me, this idea always conjured the image of a feather, and thus Feather Films was born.
Upon launching the company, I reread his essay on Lightness for inspiration. Within the essay, I was struck by the quote above that Mr. Calvino points to as his North Star. Simply translated it means, “One should be light like a bird, and not like a feather.” And so it appears I completely missed his point and picked what he would probably consider the worst name ever. But, as it stands, domain names are really fucking expensive, and feathers are pretty, so here we are.
